pyrate502 I have never really listened to most of the musicians in MoF, but I have listened to and owned Bright Eyes cd's. I was asked to come and be a part of the show walking around like a zombie before the show, doing the Thriller at the pre show Halloween party, during the show, and for the encore. Low and behold since we were there in zombie make up they assumed we knew what we were doing. We were given the job of painting the band's faces like Kiss. It was a insanity. Doing zombie make up is messy and fun, kiss make up is precise and hard, and we didn't want to screw it up. The guys in the band were actually really nice guys. I painted Conor up like Paul Stanley. Free handing the star around his eye was not fun though. The outliner I was using even broke on me. All in all I think it turned out well, and being on stage with them as a zombie for the final song was a blast.

You Aint No Picasso —
Dear people who went to the Monsters of Folk show in Louisville on Halloween, I am jealous of you. Not only could it be the only chance you’ll get to see the four of them all together for one show (though I’d love to be wrong), you also got to see them cover Kiss’ “Detroit [...]
Monsters of Folk Cover Kiss in Full Attire
BUZZGRINDER —
So I had a very tough choice to make for Halloween night. I could travel an hour to dear old Lexington and see Buzzgrinder doll babies The Seedy Seeds and our boys in Man Man, or I could fall asleep (i.e. go see Monsters of Folk here in Louisville).
I mean, the band does have Conor Oberst, after all. And Man Man is like Tom Waits if he listened to more Misfits and gargled a little less whisky. No contest, right?
Well, now I’m a little sad that I missed ...

Bedwetting Cosmonaut —

Dirty Projectors @ Jensen RecCenter, Los Angeles 10/31/09
Stereogum —
While you were out drinking as vampire Sarah Palins and slutty John McCains (research for this post conducted in 2008), musicians were celebrating Halloween in myriad ways their own: Phish covered Exile In Main Street in Indio; Titus Andronicus did an all-Weezer set while fending off security at the Vice 15 party in Williamsburg; Monsters Of Folk morphed into KISS; Pearl Jam dressed as Devo and covered "Whip It"; and doubtlessly countless more. Brooklyn's Dirty Projectors celebrated pumpkin day in Los Angeles with some silly headgear -- Longstreth in 10 gallon hat, Nate Baldwin in bozo wig, Angel in some cloth ...

melophobe - concert reviews and concert photos —
Ever wonder what Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, Jim James and M. Ward would look like covering Kiss in full Kiss make-up? Me either. It never even crossed my mind, but I sure as hell wanted to see it when I heard about it. Here’s Monsters of Folk performing “Detroit ...
Pearl Jam, Monsters of Folk and Avett Brothers Halloween covers
ZME Music —
Partying and ridiculously awesome music (and a LOT of alcohol) can make Halloween a tolerable experience, in an atmosphere dominated by lame costumes and pathetic pranks. This weekend, some lucky concert goers were met with a few surprise appearances by their favorite bands in some peculiar formats.
At The Ryman, my favorite bluegrass ensemble played the them song of the cult classic ¡Three Amigos!, with the necessary props to go with it too - dressed up in mariachis like the movie’s protagonists (Chevy Chase Steve Martin and Martin Short). Although the moment was terribly too short, it simply made my day! ...
