For the last nine months, Benjamin Jay Womack has been soldiering through terminal lung cancer that has spread to his brain, liver and God knows where else — at the age of 34.
It’s been two weeks since B Jay went into hospice, but he’s since returned home. When he’s not in bed watching movies, he gets around in a wheelchair. Because of his frail physical condition, he won’t play anymore shows, but a benefit concert will be held at 529 on July 4 to cover his funeral expenses…

As a founding member of several Atlanta bands; mentor to the likes of The Black Lips and Deerhunter; doorman for the Drunken Unicorn venue and one of the featured figures of the We Fun music documentary, he was one of Atlanta's true characters. [image] Funeral Plans for Bobby Ubangi POSTED SUNDAY 07.05.09 [image] The funeral for B Jay Womack will be held on Monday, July 6 at the Honeycreek Woodlands near the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia. The funeral starts at 2 p.m. sharp and will be held on a nature preserve down the road from the monastery. Please be prepared to follow signs for parking and burial site. Parking is very limited, so carpooling is required. The burial site is a 1/2 mile hike on a gravel path through a densely wooded area, so please wear proper attire (high heels are not a good ...
