Speaking at his annual Aids Foundation benefit in New York, the 62-year-old said: "The worst thing about being in the hospital was that it's the first time I've been in bed for about nine days in the whole of my life." The illness resulted in the cancellation of a string of UK and US dates. Sir Elton went on to express his concern over the current economic crisis and how it might impact his fund raising efforts for his Elton John Aids Foundation. John's recent and severe bout of E.coli and influenza kept the flamboyant 62-year-old from fulfilling his commitment at Oakland's Oracle Arena on Saturday. And now, another Bay Area date on their "Face 2 Face" tour, set for Tuesday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, has been postponed because of Joel's "undisclosed medical reasons." As organizers scramble to schedule make-up dates for these two shows, all fans are being asked to hold onto their tickets until information can be released regarding rescheduled gigs. After shows last week in Seattle and Portland were postponed, Elton's handlers mistakenly thought the Rocket Man would be well enough for the Oakland show.
