Jay Sean: All or Nothing | CD review

(Cash Money) Jay Sean's third album is already out in the US, reflecting his star status there: the single Down was the first by a British Asian artist to reach No 1 in the Billboard chart, which was achieved through the device of sounding as American as it's possible for a Londoner to do. (Lil Wayne's yappy guest rap probably didn't hurt, either.) All Or Nothing has also been calibrated to appeal to R&B; fans across the Atlantic, with little in Sean's keening, Akonish vocal to suggest that the singer was raised in Hounslow. The only signs of Britishness are the drum'n'bass foundations of If I Ain't Got You and a duet with ex-Sugababe Keisha Buchanan on Far Away – a performance of such weediness that it could only be by two Brits. Interestingly, a collaboration with Craig David, Stuck in the Middle, is much more vigorous. The rest is glossy, super-catchy R&B; that should finally establish him in the UK. Beyoncé ended her British “I Am …” tour with a promise to be back next year with a new album, and producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins tweeted he is indeed working on tracks for the superstar’s next LP, Billboard reports . Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman has started a side project called Apparatjik with Mew’s Jonas Bjerre and A-Ha’s keyboardist Magne Furuholmen and producer Martin Terefe, Spinner reports . The group plans to release its debut November 30th, and already has an official Website . iTunes is teaming with concert giant Live Nation to present Live Nation Studios, where music recorded and filmed at Live Nation venues will be available for purchase on Apple’s digital store. So far, concerts from OK Go, Duffy and Plain White T’s have gone up for sale. Creed will commemorate their Full Circle reunion tour with a December 8th DVD called Creed Live . Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond has been delayed. The singer’s post-divorce album is moving from December 21st to an undetermined date, Billboard reports . Bryan Ferry sent a note to fans announcing that he’s begun work on a new solo album that’s due in summer 2010 and features Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, Flea and Nile Rodgers. Ferry posted some video from the studio on his official Website. The Black Keys will spend every morning this week from 10-11:00 a.m. on Sirius XMU host Jake Fogelnest’s radio show chatting about and debuting music from their new Blakroc project . Dan Auerbach will also perform songs from his solo LP Keep It Hid . Tommy Lee has assembled a project called Bezerk that features Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Velvet Revolver’s Matt Sorum, Incubus’ Jose Pasillas, Godsmack’s Sully Erna and more artists and will debut at Guitar Center’s Drum-Off ‘09 Grand Finals at Los Angeles’ Wiltern on January 8th. ...
