Cocteau Twins singer joins Hookham Boys tonight
It's not the comeback we were expecting. For the first time in years, Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser has announced a return to the stage. But while a ballyhoo'ed Barbican residency, a performance for the Queen or maybe a headlining slot at Coachella might seem natural destinations, instead Fraser's return will be a much more modest gig . Forget the symphony orchestra, the Jumbotron screen – she'll simply be jamming with some friends at a small Islington club. And the cost? Pay what you like, dearies. The gig takes place tonight at the Library, a smallish venue opposite Union Chapel. Fraser will appear as one of the Hookham Boys, joining her husband Damon Reece in a "supergroup" comprising former members of Massive Attack, Placebo, Suede, Spiritualized, Echo and the Bunnymen and Goldfrapp. Although the Library's flier doesn't mention Fraser by name, the NME reports that she will be on hand for the Hookham Boys' "countrybilly and a sprinkle of Johnny Cash covers".
